Kevin Blackwood started playing blackjack during the early 1980s. In the last three decades he has become one of the foremost players in the world of blackjack and has published a blackjack novel, The Counter, as well as a book on blackjack strategy, Play Blackjack Like the Pros.
Kevin Blackwood started playing blackjack after being inspired by an article he read in Sports Illustrated Magazine. The article featured blackjack great Ken Uston. Learning the story of how Ken Uston learned to count cards and beat the house at blackjack made Blackwood want to get into blackjack. He decided to go for it and learned to count cards by reading books by Uston, Stanford Wong and Lawrence Revere.
As Blackwood improved his skills he started playing blackjack professionally, as a career. Though he has suffered losses, he has won more often than not and was able to live more than comfortably off his blackjack earnings. Blackwood says he has worked harder on card counting than anything else he has worked on in his life, and it paid off for him.
He shares tips and insider secrets in his book Play Blackjack Like the Pros. He covers everything from myths about the game to basic rules and strategy, money management, camouflage, team play and more. However, one of the most valuable things in his book is an explanation of card counting for beginners, intermediate and advanced players.
Blackwood’s card counting method of choice is the Hi-Opt II system. He believes that, although many pro players use simple card counting methods like the High/Low count, the key to card counting is moving up to more complicated two-level and three-level counts.
These days, Blackwood still plays but has moved on to sharing his blackjack knowledge with others through writing. He also wrote Casino Gambling For Dummies.
